Georgie Fernicola passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025 surrounded by her family. Georgie was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on April 3, 1940, to George and Anna Amabile. In 1957 she married her true love Nick Fernicola. Together they set off on a 61-year adventure, traveling the east coast for Nick's career as a jockey. They started their family in 1958 with the birth of their daughter Cheryl. The arrival of their daughter Michele in 1961 completed their family. They settled in Miami Lakes in 1971. Georgie was known for her kind heart as well as her incredible cooking. Everybody was welcome at the Fernicola house. That welcome always included a good meal on the table. In addition to her amazing Italian food, Georgie was known for her famous cheesecake and anisette cookies. The house on Mahogany Court was never quiet. A place so many called their second home. Georgie loved to entertain and be surrounded by family and friends. For years her house was the center of lively get-togethers with music and laughter and of course, copious amounts of food. No one ever left the party before she could "make them a plate" to take home. With her daughters now grown and starting their own families, they encouraged Georgie to take on a new challenge to be active in her community.
So, after moving to Pembroke Pines Georgie started her career with Avon. Her daughters started her out with ten Avon Catalogues. From those ten catalogues Georgie built a business and a neighborhood of friends. There wasn't anybody in Cooper City or Pembroke Pines, especially Century Village, who didn't know Georgie, "The Avon Lady". Besides delivering her orders, she would also check to see if her customers needed anything else. Often stopping by the store to pick up a few things for the customers who couldn't get around so easily anymore. Her career spanned three decades, enriching the lives of every person she met.
She was proud of her accomplishments with Avon, reaching Presidential status within the company. However, Georgie was most proud of her family. After the arrival of her two beautiful granddaughters, she became known to everybody as "Grandma". Grandma put the same enthusiasm into nurturing her granddaughters lives that she did her own girls. She never missed a dance recital, Daisies activity, Brownies meeting, school event or cheerleading competition. And of course, her granddaughters' friends were always welcome at Grandma's house. A whole new generation was introduced to Grandma's cheesecake and anisette cookies. When her granddaughters started their own families, Georgie was thrilled to now be a Great-Grandma – five times over in fact. The "Fab Five" as she would call them gave her the moniker "GMA Honey". GMA Honey loved watching her great-grandchildren's baseball, futsal and soccer games and attending their gymnastics lessons, dance recitals and school events. She was her families' greatest cheerleader.
Georgie "GMA Honey" Fernicola brought love and happiness to everybody she knew. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nick. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl and Michele, her daughter-in-law Jeanette, her Granddaughters Taylor (Michael) and Ashley and her Great Grandchildren Liam, Carson, Giada, Anibelle and Anastyn. The loss of her physical presence is overwhelming, but we know she will continue to watch over us. We love and miss you GMA.
