Obituary of Georgie Anna McGrady
Georgie Anna Walker McGrady
June 15, 1937 – July 20, 2025
Georgie Anna was born on June 15, 1937, to the late Benjamin Walker and Marion Mildred Holmes Walker of Blossburg, Pa. Georgie passed away peacefully during prayer with her loving husband, daughter, son in-law, cousins, clergy and friends by her side.
Georgie was predeceased by her brother, Donald Walker, her sisters Marion Lewis, Juanita Paisley, and Leatha Jane Kelley.
Georgie is survived by her loving husband, Alfred (Deak McGrady), and her beloved children, Chloe Bynum (Willie) of Zebulon, NC, Waneta June (Gerald) of Clayton, NC, Hope Howard (Ken) of Palm Coast, FL, Jill Davis (Paul) of New Carrollton, MD, and Alfred McGrady of Syracuse, NY; her adored grandchildren, Benjamin Davis, Jasmine Davis, Monique Howard and Mackenzie Howard; along with numerous nieces, nephews' other relatives, and friends.
She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years and her accomplishments throughout her nursing career were such an inspiration to her family. She found joy and passion in working and helping others in the community. Georgie was always recognized by her past families in almost every store she walked into. Georgie became a pioneer and one of the first nurses in a program of serving and working with pregnant teenagers, Prenatal Early Infancy Program (PEIP) which had a great impact throughout the community. This program was changed to Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) and these programs have changed over 280,000 lives and today over 1,800 nurses are replicating it across the country and around the world.
One of her leadership roles throughout her career led her to another challenge, when she became the Director of the Drug & Alcohol Program. With her no-nonsense personality and endurance, she was able to accomplish in serving and helping others.
Georgie's work experience includes, St. Joseph's Hospital, Arnot Ogden Hospital, Correctional Nursing, EOP and she finished her career with CIDS where she made such a huge impact on the community.
Her role as the matriarch helped shape and mold her immediate family and her extended family. She was resourceful, and supportive of the family. Her no-nonsense personality and tough love extended to hugs, kisses and then calling you "Pumpkin" with a smile on her face. She was an avid gardener and made sure no weeds grew in her garden and she would pick weeds while having conversations with whoever was sitting on her porch. She enjoyed baking cakes and always had requests for her apple pies and cornbread. Three of her favorite past times were sitting on her front porch with her husband and family while at the same time giving out orders, loving her grandchildren and sharing them with everyone especially her best friend Mumsey.
A God-fearing woman whom loved God and her church. She attended Monumental Baptist Church, Frederick Douglas AME Zion Church and Friendship Baptist Church.
Georgie better known as Nana found love and joy in her 4 grandchildren. One of her grandchildren's fondest memories was when their Nana waved goodbye to them while standing on the sidewalk until she could no longer see them.
The family gives their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Elcor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Colonial Ridge West (the best crew ever). We thank them for the care and the love given to our mother. They are responsible for nursing Georgie back to good health every time she became ill and this allowed the family to have extra time, extra hugs, extra laughs, as well as following her orders, enjoying meals together with her and watching her favorite show on television, Animal Planet. We also thank family, friends and the people she adopted and called them family, for all of their support through her journey. Her legacy lives through the family and friends.
Now "Pumpkin" You Rest in Peace!
The family will hold a Celebration of Georgie's life at a later date and time.

Diane and I were so sorry to hear of Georgie's passing. Deke and family: You are in our thoughts and prayers. The earth just lost another visiting angel, but her wings surely have carried her on to be with Our Lord.
