Gerald Ashby, 76, of Cox's Creek, passed away on September 13, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born on September 20, 1948 and lived a life of service. He served his country in the Vietnam War and later worked as a Postal Carrier with the United States Post Office. In recognition of his service, he was honored to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2025. Gerald also took pride in his work as a dairy farmer and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

His greatest accomplishment was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, with whom he always enjoyed visiting and spending time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Teresa Ashby, and three sisters, Margaret White, Betty Marksbury, and Grace Keeling.

Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Alberta Ashby; his children, Marcia Sanders (Todd), Mark Ashby (Toni), and McCray Ashby (Will); his grandchildren, Shelby, Michaela (Nick), Samuel, Christian, Kyler, Josephine, and Oliver; and his five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Ashby (Lydia), and sisters, Jean Roggenkamp and Bonnie Lewis.

Gerald will be remembered for his service to his country, his strong work ethic, and, most importantly, his dedication to his family.

Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Ashby will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, KY 40004. The Reverend William Myers will officiate. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 pm and Thursday after 9:00 am until time of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight Bluegrass. The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I remember many, many years ago, Mildred Tingle Marksbury and i had a birthday party together and Gerald brought each of us a mustard seed necklace. I still have mine. Went to not only school together our whole scholastic lives as well as church at Little Union Baptist Church. He was a good friend. Prayers for family.
