Gerald Scott Cody, age 92, passed from this life on Sunday, August 20, 2023, following his heroic fight with Alzheimer’s. His wife, Winkie Cody, and his family were at his side as he passed from this life.

 

Gerald was born on February 7, 1931, in Borger, Texas, to his parents, the late A.D. Cody, and the late Berniece (Scott) Cody. Gerald and his father moved back to the Kaufman area in 1933 after the death of his mother. He worked for Paul Murray Ford. He also owned the Kaufman Hardware and Auto Store on the square in Kaufman. Gerald then went to work as a rural route carrier for RR 3 for the Kaufman Post Office, retiring in 1992 following 22 years of service. Gerald married Winkie (Pattie) Cave on January 22, 1955, and have been married for 68 years.

 

Gerald proudly served his country in the US Army and participated in the Korean War. During his military service, Gerald earned the Bronze Star.

 

Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing and anything outdoors. He was an avid golfer. He also loved his German Shepards.

 

Those remaining to cherish his memories are his wife of 68 years, Winkie; his son, Mike Cody of Mabank; his brother, Bill Cody (spouse – Julie) of Napa, California; five grandchildren, Michelle Donnell (spouse – Sean) of Kemp, Cody Scott (spouse – Krystal) of Mabank; Becky Foss of Mabank; Robert Cody of Farmington, New Mexico; Michael Cody of Farmington, New Mexico; his great grandchildren, Travis, Trent, and Trace Donnell, Mason and Ethan Scott, Gunnar, Finley, and Neil Foss, Gage Cody, and Peyton and Evan Cody; and his beloved pet, Pixie

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Belinda Cody Scott; his son-in-law, Andy Scott; his brother, Bob Cody; and his stepmother, Sally Cody.

 

Friends are welcome to a public visitation to share memories of Gerald on Saturday morning, August 26, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel in Kaufman. A committal service will follow at the Kaufman Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Presley officiating.
