Chism-Smith Funeral HomeGerald Calvin Combs was born on March 31, 1939, in Pecan Gap, Texas, and raised in Irving, Texas. He passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, William Lee Combs and Willie Dale Combs; his brothers Kenneth Combs, Ronald Combs, Roger Combs, and Richard Combs; and his sister, Betty Jean Keil.
He is survived by his daughters, Cindy Taylor and husband Dion Taylor, and Terie Neal and her partner Joseph Carruth. Gerald was a proud grandfather to Darlene Nickell, Rayna Marusich, Bethany Klima and husband Adam Klima, and Brennan Wright and wife Sabrina Sherwood Wright. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren: Joseph Klima, Sean Klima, and Alani Sherwood.
He is also survived by a beloved family friend, Windee Huff, along with her daughters Neaveh Huff and Faith Huff, as well as many beloved nieces, a nephew, and numerous friends.
Gerald worked for 10 years at Texas Commerce Bank in the mailroom, operating large equipment. He also spent many years at Thorsen Tools as a drafter. He also worked in the printing industry. Additionally, He was a hardworking man who loved working with his hands—especially, building boats and creating paint-by-number art for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gerald’s life was centered around his faith in God and his devotion to family. He taught those around him the true meaning of family and instilled strong values that will live on through generations. He was a constant presence and supporter in all the sports and activities his loved ones participated in.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chism-Smith Funeral Home in Irving, Texas.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM, also at Chism-Smith Funeral Home, with interment to follow at 2:00 PMat Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Gerald will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his warmth, strength, and unwavering love for his family.
