Gerald Daniel Cook, age 84, a resident of
Harrogate, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 4, 1941 in
Fourmile, Kentucky, the son of the late James "L.C." Cook and Thelma Pinion.
Gerald was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had the "gift of gab", so to speak, enjoying talking to and meeting new people. Gerald had a knack for striking up a conversation and could find common ground with anyone. Strangers quickly became friends, and he could easily make you feel as if you had known him for years. His enjoyment of conversation truly stemmed from his genuine love of people. Gerald had the unique ability to quickly make you feel not only comfortable and welcomed, but heard.
In his professional career, Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, where he proudly served his country. Afterward, he enjoyed his work as a heavy equipment operator and a bus driver. His love for people and servitude extended into his community, having been a longtime faithful, and proud dual member of the Shawanee and Big Spring Union Masonic Lodges for over 50 years alongside his brothers. A true family man, Gerald's love flowed toward those nearest and dearest to him – his family; he enjoyed nothing more than being in their presence. His greatest love however was for the Lord and His church – he faithfully attended and worshipped at Hensley's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Gerald will be remembered for his immense love and servant's heart for others, his family and the Lord. Every conversation with him was a testament to the type of man he was and what he stood for, every word shared proof of what truly meant the most. All who were blessed to have shared such moments with him will hold fast to the promise that Gerald's now having a conversation in the very presence of the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jimmy Pinion, children Gerald Daniel "Danny" Cook and Katrena Detty, granddaughter Amanda Upton, brother David Cook and infant brother James Cook, and grandparents Neely and Effie Warren.
Left to cherish his memory, wife Janis Cook, son James Cook and wife Tammy, stepdaughter Steva Parkey, sister Bobbie Taber and husband Greg, grandchildren Ashley, Kristy, Jess, Harry, Zaden, Helena, Maddy, Emmy Lou, Josh, Shae, Raeghan, Taylor, Lynn, Wess and Rachel, several great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives, friends and church family too numerous to name but all who will miss him so dearly.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt expression of gratitude to their Hensley's Chapel family, Shawanee and Big Spring Union Lodge brothers, Suncrest Hospice Team, Tri-State Rehab Therapy Team, Amada Senior Care Givers, special friend and nurse Jennifer Hacker, and special sister's-in-law Arleen, Diane, Linda, Pat and Sue.
