Gerald Ira Dunlap known to most as "Jerry" passed away suddenly at his home on October 14, 2024 at the age of 83 years. He was born July 12, 1941 in Irondale, Missouri the son of the late Ocia Frank and Frances Ellen (Barton) Dunlap.
On June 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Louise Brush who survives. This union was blessed with a son, Troy "Skip" Dunlap and wife, Alison of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Also surviving is his granddaughter, Morgan of West Bloomfield, Michigan, his brother: William "Dewayne" Dunlap of Farmington, Missouri and three sisters: Mary Lou Boswell of Roselle, Missouri, Nancy Bazzell of Granite City, Illinois, and Linda Marler of Fredericktown, Missouri as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. His special furbaby, Suzie will miss him immensely.
Jerry was preceded in death by his twin brothers: Roy Lee and Leroy Dunlap who died at birth, and his brothers Stanley Dunlap, Melvin Dunlap, Marvin Dunlap, and Leslie Dunlap.
Jerry proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironton. Jerry's career as a heavy equipment mechanic began in the Navy and he continued with this career for nineteen years working for Caterpillar. He was the top field serviceman for Caterpillar for twelve of those years. He then opened his own heavy equipment repair shop. Even after he retired and moved to the Arcadia Valley it wasn't long before he opened yet another repair shop. Jerry was blessed to truly love his work. He also enjoyed boating, especially racing sailboats. Shooting was another hobby that he shared with his son.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. from Bryson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Schmitt officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. A flag presentation ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironton, Missouri.
