Gerald Fishbein, 94 years old, of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife Suzanne Fishbein of 70 years. Devoted father of two daughters: his older daughter, Sharon Schwartzman and her husband Jeffrey and his younger daughter, Laura Maglio. Proud Papa of Michael and his wife Molly, Joshua and his wife Margaret, Rachel and Andrew. Older brother of William Fishbein and the late Sheldon Fishbein. Loving son of the late Rubin and Charlotte Fishbein. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

He graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Arts; he received an M.A. from New York University School of Education and received a Ph.D. from the University of Denver. He worked consistently as a Psychologist and Psychoanalyst in a variety of mental health settings until he opened his own successful clinical practice in New York City. He was an educator of several psychoanalytic institutes including CMPS and ACAP and respected by his colleagues. He was a member of the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a former member of Temple Avoda in Fair Lawn, NJ and Temple Avodat Shalom in River Edge, NJ.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.

Memorial donations in memory of Gerald Fishbein may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies (CMPS) 16 West 10th Street, New York, NY 10011
