Gerald Govin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Feb. 2, 2024.
Age 76, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024. He was born in Hastings, Michigan on August 22, 1947 and resided in nearly every midwestern state before graduating from Marquette High School in 1965. He earned a B.S. degree in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969. He was awarded his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He went on to complete his internship and residency in general surgery at the Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego. Following a distinguished career as a general surgeon in the US Navy with special expertise in trauma and critical care, he returned to the Milwaukee area to complete his residency in plastic surgery.
Dr. Govin was a highly respected, board certified plastic surgeon whose practice focused on cosmetic, reconstructive, hand and burn surgery. While attending the University of Wisconsin, Gerry met the love of his life, Suzi. They were married in the summer of 1969 and were each other's constant companions for 54 years. Their devotion to each other was unparalleled, and their enduring bond was a testament to the power of love and commitment. As a father to Tricia, James and John he was both a guiding light and a steadfast source of support, instilling in his children the values of kindness, integrity, and resilience along with his Catholic faith. Gerry's nine grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in their laughter and milestones. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Dr. Govin was preceded in death by his daughter Tricia Casper, his parents Patricia and Charles Govin, his in-laws Leroy and Ruth Klose, and his brother and sister-in-law Peter and Sandra Klose. He is survived by his beloved wife Susan, son-in-law Jeff Casper, sons James (Christy) Govin and John (Rachel) Govin, and grandchildren Tyler and Brandon Casper, Zachary, Kate, Jacob, Joseph, Phillip, Samuel and Marie Govin, brothers Charles (Bea) Govin and Timothy (Cheryl) Govin. He was further survived by a loving extended family and many dear friends.
In addition to his dedication to family, Gerry was a beacon of warmth and compassion to all who crossed his path. Gerry was known for his passion for Badger sports, traveling to the beach, playing tennis and swimming. He approached life with enthusiasm and a zest for living and learning. Gerry's legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. While he may no longer be physically present, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

I got to know Gerry as a patient with Dupuytren's Contracture. He operated on my hands successfully, after other doctors had tried and failed, several times. In the process, my wife and I got to know Gerry not only as a successful doctor but as an exceptional man who was a great husband and father and we learned that in his capacity as a naval officer he had become a valuable asset to the service, and indeed the nation. He and his wife became great friends with our family and we are proud to have known him for many years, a rare, very good man.
