Gerald Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trahan Funeral Chapel & Prearrangement Center on Jan. 3, 2026.
Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Green, of Bay City, 85 years old. Passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born January 9, 1940 to Gilbert and Elizabeth (Larcom) Green in Bay City and was a proud graduate of St. James High School. Jerry graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1958 and worked as a mechanical engineer in the automative industry until his retirement in 2002. Jerry worked in various GMI plants including Delco Moraine and Delphi.
Jerry loved the community he lived in and served as a Bay County Commissioner for the 2nd Ward for several years and later served in the Bay County Housing Commission in his retirement.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed coaching youth sports teams including YMCA basketball "The Green Team", Bay City Catholic League basketball 8th grade champions, St. James Irish football and Bay City Northeast Little League with two-time minor-league championships, "Triple Clean".
Jerry was proud of his Irish heritage and loved all things Irish, especially Irish music. He was a member of Friends of Celtic Culture and enjoyed listening to Irish bands, from near and far, play at the State Theater. A highlight every year was his annual St. Patrick's Day party, where family and friends gathered together to enjoy music, food, a good laugh and a green beer. Jerry loved Notre Dame football and cheered them on for decades.
One special St Patrick's Day Parade in 1964, Jerry drove the Queen's court in his beloved white Corvette, and with the luck of the Irish, convinced one lass to marry him. Jerry and Cheri were married for 60 years.
In his later years, Jerry spent the summers in his pool with his grandchildren, soaking up the sun and enjoying a barbecue.
Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Gilbert Green, his sisters Gwen Ruhland, Janet Ruhland, and Betty Williams, and his brothers Robert and Chauncey Green. Brother Bert Green survives him, in addition to his spouse Cheri Green, daughter Kelly Green (Darren Simpson) son Patrick Green, and grandchildren Katie Kalkman (Tobin), Emilee Green and Holland Green.
Jerry is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jerry offered words of advice to his kids and grandkids; work hard, do your best, stay connected with family, help people and animals when you can, and go to mass.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Trahan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jose Cabrera presiding. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Celebrate Jerry's life online by sharing your favorite stories and photos on his dedicated webpage at www.trahanfc.com

Cheri, Kelly, and Pat. My deepest sympathies for Jerry´s passing. Many memories are with me of being neighbors and parents with our children growing up on 6th street. Jerry was great at helping so many boys learn to play baseball. I hope your memories give you comfort and peace. Lynne Chan

Jerry served on the Bay County Board of Commissioners with my husband Michael. I have fond memories of Jerry during that time and after. Have thought of him on occasion and wondered how he was doing. Michael, who is deceased too, and I always thought of Jerry with heartfelt good thoughts and memories. May Our Lord welcome Jerry with open arms, and may the two Irishmen laugh together once again.
