Gerald Wayne Harris, 91, died on Sunday, December 22, 2024. He was a resident of Spartanburg, SC. Mr. Harris was a native of Durham, NC. He was the son of Erskine Owen and Lora Poole Harris.
He was a radio and television broadcaster for 50 years working in several markets including Spartanburg, Charlottesville, VA., Roanoke Rapids NC., Canton, NC, Hickory, NC. and his hometown of Durham, NC.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg and a former member of Tri City Baptist Church in Conover, NC. Before his death, Mr. Harris asked the following statement to be included in his obituary, “I have finished the race and I have won. Be joyful for now I am in Heaven. Be happy for me. Be Saved and the time will come when you can join me.”
He was predeceased by his mother and father and his former wife, Shirley Harris Landon. He is survived by a daughter, Ann Daniel; three sons, John (Shirl Ann), Guy (Christy) and Sam (Julie), 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held at Southside Baptist Church at 316 S Church Street, Spartanburg, SC on Saturday, December 28th at 11:00am, conducted by Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Visitation will be at 10:00 am immediately before the service. Burial will follow at Good Shepard Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, SC.
In honor of Wayne, memorial contributions may be made to Southside Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
