TEXAS CITY – Mr. Gerald Lee Hoyland passed away at the age of 78 on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in Texas City.

Gerald was born November 22, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas. A standout athlete in his youth, he played both football and baseball at Clear Creek High School and went on to graduate in 1965. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard before beginning a long and dedicated 35-year career as a pipefitter with Monsanto. Outside of work, he found joy in hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife, Sylvia. Their adventures took them to 27 states. Gerald was known for living life on his own terms and he had a story for every occasion and a joke ready to share. To know him was to love him and we are grateful to have had him in our lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Wilson and Dessie Lee (Baggs) Hoyland; brothers, Pat Hoyland, Steve Hoyland, Sr.; son, Jason Gray.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sylvia Hoyland; daughter, Michele Hoyland; sons, Tony Gray, Alan Gray; sister, Karan Clifford (Steve); grandchildren, Ashley Gray, Shelby Gray, Jasmine Gray, Savannah Gray; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Texas.
