Gerald Lillich Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Springs Funeral Services - Platte on Dec. 30, 2025.
Gerald H. Lillich, born May 19, 1943, in Bird City, Kansas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of quiet dedication, generosity, and service to others.

Gerald was born at home to Herman William Henry Lillich and Marie Elise Bertha (Stutheit) Lillich, who instilled in him the values of hard work, faith, and kindness that guided his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brothers, Eugene Lillich (and sister-in-law Amy Lillich) and Keith Lillich.

A lifelong learner, Gerald was proud to be part of the first graduating class of Farm Mechanics at the Northwest Area Vocational School in Goodland, Kansas, in 1966. He continued his education with determination, earning an associate degree from Colby Community College in 1973 and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Emporia State University in 1975.

Gerald dedicated much of his professional life to the City of Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation, where he served in the Greenhouse Department. Over the course of 20 years, he took pride in his work nurturing plants and beautifying the community he loved. He retired in 2001, leaving behind the respect and appreciation of his colleagues.

Faith was an important part of Gerald's life. He became a member of First Lutheran Church of Colorado Springs in 1981, where he found fellowship and purpose. In later years, he devoted countless hours to the Fleece Blanket Ministry, lovingly crafting nearly 600 blankets. Each blanket was a tangible expression of his compassion, warmth, and desire to bring comfort to others.

Gerald is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews: Susan (John) Clement, Tim Lillich, Colter Lillich, and Carol (Noah) Zepelin; as well as his treasured grand-nieces, Rose Marie Lillich, Catherine Elise Lillich, and Talia Rose Zepelin. He was a steady presence in their lives, remembered for his gentle spirit, thoughtfulness, and unwavering care for family.

Gerald will be remembered not for seeking attention, but for the many quiet ways he made the world a better place-one plant nurtured, one blanket tied, one act of kindness at a time. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared.

My buddy Rick and I met Gerry 12-14 years ago. Rick and I work valet at the Mining Exchange Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs and that´s where we had the privilege to meet Gerry for the first time. Gerry would take the bus downtown and would walk around the downtown area and would always come by and see Rick and I . Seeing Gerry would make our day . He would always make us laugh and always had a smile on his face . Gerry was a wonderful person and was always doing kind things for everyone. The Lord really blessed me to give me such a good friend as Gerry. You will be missed buddy. Love you always and God bless

Met Jerry back in 1975 at the Lutheran Student Center. We became great friends, and Jerry was part of our wedding party. He was a brother in Christ that followed and trusted in Jesus. Bob and Judy Jones
