As a young man he worked with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany in Air Defense Artillery Missiles. He was an avid collector of all things. He enjoyed his weekends at the local flea market and most days would find him eating at Gene's Oyster Bar. He was a humble man always extending his hand and kindness to help others in any situation. His big heart, blue eyes and infectious smile will never be forgotten. To know him is to love him.

Sincere gratitude to family and friends who took the time to call, visit, send care packages and cards, and who prayed for him. May the Lord bless you all for your acts of love and kindness. From the time I was 6 I was always at the Nelson house, I´m best friends with his Step daughter Stephanie, I use to stay the night on school nights sometimes, Jerry would take me and my sister to school at Merrit Brown on his way to work in that old brown car which I thought was the coolest. I know he will be missed by his kids Haley and Jerry also his step kids Stephanie and Bramlet. I know he is happy now up there with Debbie and not hurting.
