Gerald Mon "Jerry" Pere M.D.

Gerald Vincent Mon Pere, M.D., passed away at home on April 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was 95. Known for his exceptional kindness, he leaves behind his beloved brother, Tom Mon Pere, and five children: Claudia McIsaac, Julie Blythe, Paul Mon Pere, Amy Thele, and John Mon Pere. Jerry, known as Poppy by his grandchildren, is also survived by ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives Susan Elizabeth Mon Pere and Lyla Brewer Mon Pere, his son, Philip Mon Pere by his sister Carol Monpere and his brother Patrick James Mon Pere.
Jerry was born in Fresno on June 13, 1929, to Angela Mon Pere (ne Erro), and John Vincent Mon Pere. Jerry attended Fresno High School, leaving early to join the Marine Corps, where he completed his GED. After his military service, he attended The University of Notre Dame, then the University of California, San Francisco. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Susan Elizabeth Diederich, mother of his six children. He completed medical school at UCSF, becoming an otorhinolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat doctor). After his wife, Susan, passed, he married Lyla Brewer, who passed in 2013.
Dr. Mon Pere had a long standing medical practice in Fresno, and was beloved by his patients and their families. After retirement, he continued to serve his community, as a volunteer physician at the Poverello House. Jerrys legacy is one of quiet dedication and selfless service to those around him.
Loving father, grandfather, great-grand-father. Gerald Vincent Mon Pere, Pop, Dad, Poppy lives in his familys hearts and is deeply missed.
Services will be held at The Shrine of St Therese, on Friday, May 16th, at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Poverello House.
