Gerald Ramsey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglass Funeral Home - Lexington on Dec. 24, 2025.
Gerald F. Ramsey of Lexington, December 19, 2025. Beloved husband of Joanne (Spellman) Ramsey. Loving father of Deborah Chalifour and her husband Paul of Wilmington, Robert Ramsey of Lexington, and Kenneth Ramsey and his wife Grisett of Billerica. Devoted brother of the late Paul Ramsey and Philippe Ramsey. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Kyle, Dawn, Beau, Maddie, and Ava, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Montreal, Canada where he was educated at St. Leo's School, he later moved to Belmont while attending Boston College on a hockey scholarship. In addition to his lifelong love for hockey, he was for many years an amateur boxer. Gerry married Joanne Spellman in 1962 and the couple settled in Lexington in 1964 where they raised their family and where Gerry and Joanne resided until his passing. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Canada Dry and later Coca-Cola. He loved spending time with his family. He especially loved traveling to this vacation home in Lake Placid, NY. For nearly 40 years, Gerry enjoyed sharing and enjoying his second home in the Adirondacks with family and friends. In addition to his mountain getaway, Gerry loved vacationing in Coastal Maine, especially Ogunquit, a place he had visited since his own childhood. He was also a fixture on the Minuteman Bike Path in Lexington for many years, rollerblading with his Husky dogs and his best friend, Rich Greeley.

Friends are invited to join Gerry's family in a Mass of Christian burial which will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 920 Trapelo Rd. Waltham at 10:00am. Private prayer and reflection at 9:00am for immediate family members only at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington to be followed by a procession to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of one's choosing. Following the Mass, internment will be at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

Gerry was such an amazing friend to our dad Rich. It´s like God sent him when he needed a friend the most. For years and years almost everyday, they skated together on the bike path. They would stop and talk and meet other random friends. They sure were a staple on that trail! They would either take the dogs or my son Cameron. Then, it became Friday nights after skating it was fudruckers with Gerry, dad and Robbie.
Joanne, Kenny, Debbie and Robbie- you are such a wonderful and kind family and my dad was a better man for having Gerry in his life!! I will forever cherish their friendship and Gerry will be missed dearly. I´m so sorry for your loss.

Love,
Rich and family

One of the things I´ll always admire about Gerry was his genuine interest in others. He had a wonderful way of remembering what was happening in your life, what mattered to you and would always ask about it. Gerry had that special way of checking in and that kindness will stay with me.
I'll keep Gerry in my prayers, Anita Connerty
