Warwick - Gerald R. Raposa,89, known affectionately as Jerry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Warwick, Rhode Island, on Monday, June 2, 2025. Born on May 24, 1936, in Providence, Rhode Island, Jerry was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, kindness, and friendly demeanor.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Vivian (Dupre) Raposa, with whom he shared over 46 years of marriage filled with love. He was a devoted father to Diane Raposa of Riverside, Carol Giacobbi and her husband Philip of North Providence, and the stepfather to the late Pamela Cullerton-Coolen. Jerry was the cherished son of the late Joseph and Mary (Costa) Raposa. He was the caring brother to Frank Raposa of Vermont and predeceased by his brothers Alfred and Joseph Raposa. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of Kathryn Giacobbi - Bass. His family meant the world to him, and he left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
For over 30 years, Jerry served the community of East Providence as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his work and the people he served. He has lived in Warwick for seven years, coming from East Providence. His dedication to his community extended beyond his professional life as he was a faithful parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church. His faith and service were further exemplified during his tenure as the Past Grand Knight of the Fatima Council of Knights of Columbus from 1984-1985.
Jerry's interests were as rich and varied as his contributions to the community. A member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood Club of East Providence, he shared a sense of camaraderie and fellowship with his fellow members. His passion for antique cars was evident in his prized possession, a 1941 Ford, which he maintained with loving care and often showcased at local car shows. Jerry's love for the water was reflected in his enjoyment of cruising, that brought him great joy and relaxation.
Winter months would find Jerry and Vivian in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they enjoyed the warmer climate and the company of friends old and new. It was here that Jerry indulged in his love for dancing, a hobby that brought him laughter and vitality. His affection for his cats was well-known, as he provided a warm and loving home for his feline companions.
Jerry's life was one of connection, service, and joy. His presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. He will be remembered not only for what he did but for the warmth and friendship he extended to all. Jerry's legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, kindness, and a spirit of community that will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Chrisitan Burial at 10:00am in St. Martha Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery,661 Prospect Street, Pawtucket, RI.
