"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7
Gerald Herbert Schiele, Jr. was born on September 9, 1946, in
Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Gerald Herbert Schiele, Sr. and Mildred (Goss) Schiele. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Schiele; his parents, Gerald and Mildred (Goss) Schiele; sister Carolyn Jones; and great-grandson Alejandro De'Leon.
Gerald was educated in the Kansas City Public School System and proudly graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy and later continuing his service in the Naval Reserves. Gerald served honorably and carried with him throughout life the discipline, pride, and devotion instilled by his military experience.
Upon returning home, Gerald pursued a career marked by integrity and dedication. He worked for Sears & Roebuck, Allstate Insurance, Crown Center, and the Hereford House in downtown Kansas City. No matter where he worked, Gerald was known for his dependability, integrity and warm spirit.
Gerald also lived a life grounded in faith. He was a devoted member of the Grace Baptist Church of Greater
Kansas City, Missouri, where he served as a deacon and remained committed to uplifting others through prayer, encouragement, and quiet acts of service.
In 1965, Gerald united in marriage with his lifelong partner and best friend, Mary L. Cowthran. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of love, laughter, and family. Their union was blessed with four children, Gerald III, Kenton, Marcus, and Jenell. Gerald's love for his family was deep and unwavering-he found his greatest joy in being a husband, dad, granddad, and great-granddad.
On October 24, 2025, Gerald peacefully departed this life at Research Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Gerald H. Schiele III, Kenton Schiele, Sr. (Karren), Marcus Schiele, and Jenell Watts (Christopher); his grandchildren: Breonna, Kailah, Gerra, Unique, Gerald IV, Tamia, Kelcie, Ke'Auna, KJ, Taylor, Elijah, and Phillip; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Gerald's legacy is one of faith, love, humility, and strength. He lived his life with quiet dignity, finding purpose in family, service and kindness. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit continues to live on in all of those who were blessed to know and love him.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy Lord"
