Gerald J. Schneider

Gerald Joseph Schneider, our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2025 at the age of 95. He was born on February 18, 1929 to the late George J. and Elizabeth M. (Schaeffer) Schneider. On May 6, 1950 he married the most important and necessary person in his life, Rose Mary (Smith) at St. James Church in Bay City. Together they became the proud parents of six children and shared over 61 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on Feb 8, 2011.
Gerald worked for 40 years at Dobson Heavy Haul where he retired in 1989 as the President and General Manager. He was a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul Church parish council, a life member of Knights of Columbus Council #4102, a life member of Elks Lodge #1557, and was an original board member of Bay Area Community Foundation. He also served in the Navy Reserves for several years. Gerald and Rose Mary wintered in New Smyrna Beach, FL for many years and enjoyed yearly vacations to Cancun.
Gerald is survived by five children: Robert (Norma) Schneider, Patrick (Susan) Schneider, William (Douglas Harrington) Schneider, Donald (Lisa) Schneider all of Bay City, Mary Beth (Dale) Schrock of Fairview, MI. Sister Mary Catherine McCarthy. Grandchildren: Jason, Matt, Erica, Lindie, Heather, Adam, Bridgette, Chastity and Alyssa as well as many grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Gerald was also preceded in death by brothers Ernest, Ronald and John Schneider, son Dennis Schneider, and grandson Brad Schneider.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Heartland Hospice, especially Brittany and Megan.
The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish with Fr. Dale Orlik presiding. Private interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at Trahan Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Bible Presentation and Parish Vigil Service, and at the church on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jerry's memory to Heartland Hospice.
