Gerald A. Shade, 89, of Topton, passed away February 27, 2026, at the Reading Hospital.
His wife, Ruth D. (Kleinsmith) Shade, died on April 11, 2021.
Born in Sinking Spring, he was a son of the late Arthur E., Jr., and Lena (Transue) Shade.
He was a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1954 and attended Wyomissing Polytech Institute graduating in 1956.
Gerald began his career at Textile Machine Works/Rockwell International and later retired from Bally Knitting Mills. Following his retirement, he took on a role at Royer’s Flower Shop, where he delivered flowers. Gerald found great satisfaction in this job, as it allowed him to spread joy to those receiving the beautiful arrangements.
He was a member of the Philharmonic Band for many years. Gerald took pleasure in leading movie nights and engaging in card games and other activities with his friends at the Topton Lutheran Home.
Gerald was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by two children, Brenda, wife of James Evans, Kutztown, and Dale, husband of Michele Shade Nashville TN; three grandchildren: Kayla, wife of Kirk Embry, Zachary J. Evans, and Samantha J. Evans; and two great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Luke.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Arthur, Russell, Eugene, and Donald.
Services will be Wednesday March 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 5153 Kutztown Rd, Temple, PA 19560. Burial will follow at St. John’s (Hain’s) Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 am. To 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
