Gerald Sundermeier Obituary
July 8, 1930 - April 30, 2025
Gerald F. Sundermeier, 94, of Grand Island, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. A private family memorial service will be held followed by burial in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jerry was born on July 8, 1930, at Vona, CO, to Fred and Agnes (Geisinger) Sundermeier. He grew up in Grand Island, and graduated from GI Senior High with the class of 1948. He entered the U.S. Navy on January 4, 1951, serving in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1954.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Owens on April 7, 1956, in Yankton, SD, after which the couple lived in Edgemont, SD, where Jerry worked for Mines Development. They moved back to central Nebraska and Jerry started his career as a Carpenter Super Intendent for Lacy Construction that lasted 40 plus years.
Jerry loved to hunt, fish, and watch Husker football. He also enjoyed building and making whatever he could.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sundermeier; son, Ken (Jean) Sundermeier; daughter-in-law, Marnie Sundermeier; grandchildren, Preston Sundermeier, KC (Jacquie) Sundermeier, Sarah (Kyle) Norseen, Kevin Sundermeier, Kody (Kate) Sundermeier, and Elly Sundermeier; great-grandchildren, Kloee, Kymber, KD, and Kellie Sundermeier, Bowen and Maverick Norseen; and sister, Sharon Speck.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; son, Marc Sundermeier; and sister, Betty Campion.
