Gerald Allen “Jerry” “Boomer” Tompkins, age 76 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Wednesday evening August 6, 2025, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV with his beloved family at his side. Born on July 7, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late John Allen Tompkins and Margaret Marie Smith Tompkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Debra Fultz and Charlotte Tompkins and a brother, Johnny Tompkins.
Jerry was a truck driver in his earlier years and also worked for the Town of Moorefield. His favorite job with the town was operating the street sweeper. He retired years later from Pilgrim’s Pride before working for Wratchford’s chicken houses and eventually Tiffany Michael’s houses. His work in the poultry houses was with love and passion.
Jerry was a funny and a caring person, loved his Dodge trucks and could spin a story like no other storyteller. Jerry worked most of his life, never meeting a stranger, who loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Gail “Susie” Greenwalt Tompkins; two children, Margaret (Brian) May and J.J. (Brandi Hammons) Tompkins; a brother, Kevin Tompkins; ten grandchildren, Bea, Lucas “Spanky”, Kayley, Katlyn, Autumn, Hayley, Trevor T, Jordyn, Joel and Brent; three great-grandchildren, Kolton, Stella and Sage and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Moorefield Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Lyon officiant.
