Master Sergeant Gerald Eugene "Gene" VanHoose, 88, of Plain City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2025. He was a proud Elite Marine Veteran who served his country with honor, dedicating 20 years of service to the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1976, and held the rank of Master Sergeant.
Gene was a self-employed carpenter since 1976. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being with his kids and grandchildren in the outdoors. A quiet and unassuming man who was proud to be a Marine but kept his medals, awards, and experience private.
Gene is preceded in death by: his parents Jack and Georgia VanHoose; his first wife Patricia VanHoose; bonus son-in-law Allen McCaslin; and brothers Don VanHoose and Dale VanHoose.
Gene is survived by: his wife Ann VanHoose; daughter Debbie (William) Rausch, bonus children: Joseph (Carla) Reinhard, Robert (Sarah) Reinhard, Aimee (Dan) Blumenshein, Susan McCaslin, David (Brittany) Reinhard and Melissa (Ryan) Ferriman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; best friends Boyd Smith and Ed Evans; as well as extended family.
The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Tuesday, June 10th 2025 at Ferguson Funeral Home 202 E. Main Street, Plain City, Ohio 43064 where a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday. Burial with full military honors will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City.
