Gerald W. Wakefield, Sr., "Jerry", passed away peacefully March 29, 2025 at Corwell Health Farmington Hills Hospital.
Jerry was born in Detroit, MI, September 5, 1949, the son of the late Doreen and John Wakefield.
Jerry was born with a strong sense of duty and a passion for hard work. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, spending two years stationed on the USS Denver before his honorable discharge. He loved reminiscing about his time in service and sharing stories of the places he had visited.
On May 21, 1971, Jerry married the love of his life, Pauline Jaber, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Farmington Hills. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
He dedicated over 30 years of service to the Southfield Public School District as a maintenance specialist before retiring in 2005. A true handyman, Jerry could fix anything around the house and had an undeniable passion for cars. He took pride in the work he did restoring his 1966 Dodge Charger, and he took meticulous care of all his vehicles-keeping them spotless even when they didn't need cleaning.
Family was at the heart of everything he did. He loved family trips to Torch Lake, annual getaways to Las Vegas with Pauline, and spontaneous visits to Soaring Eagle Casino. He also enjoyed scratching off lottery tickets, always hoping for a lucky win.
Jerry had a special bond with his youngest grandson, Owen, sharing a deep love of cars. He was known by all as "Uncle Jerry"-a straightforward, witty, and likeable man whose way was always the right way.
Jerry's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and country will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 53 years, Pauline; loving father of Jerry Jr. (Maureen) and Jason (Laura); cherished grandfather of Jonathan (fiancée Erica Cox), Samantha, Jacob and Owen Wakefield, and Kate (fiancé Tim McMullen), Sarah, Julia and Justin Estepp; his former daughter-in-law, Krista Sachs-Wakefield; fondest brother in law of Frances Kennady, Margaret Jaber, Barbara (Dan) Kuzniar, and Judy Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; dear brother of the late Susan Wakefield.
The Wakefield family will receive guests Tuesday, April 1, 2-8 pm at the funeral home.
A funeral service celebrating Jerry's life will be held Wednesday, April 2, 10 am, at the funeral home.
Immediately following the service, a funeral procession will take Jerry to his final resting place, next to his wife, Pauline, at Glen Eden Memorial Park. Everyone is invited to join his family in the procession.
Please keep the Wakefield family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
