It is with tremendous loss and great sadness, Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Young, 79, of Fort Ashby, WV. went to be with the Lord on September 13, 2025. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born November 9,1945 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Gerald "Bud" and Mabel (Bageant) Young.
He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Larry and Danny Young, and son-in-law, Jay Smith.
Jerry was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1963. Following he worked at PPG Industries and UPS before opening My Place in 1974 with his life-long friend and business partner Bucky Butts.
He was a member of Queen City Lodge #131, A.F. & A.M.; 32nd. Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; Ali Ghan Shrine; and Cumberland Court #117, R.O.J.
In his spare time, he enjoyed many hobbies and adventures including golfing, camping, shooting pool, spending winters in Florida, and motorcycling all over the country. He loved traveling the world and chasing the sunsets with his wife by his side. He went on many trips with his close friends including the "6 pack"
Most of all he enjoyed spending time this his family and friends.
Jerry had a heart of gold and a contagious smile that would light up the room. He never met a stranger and had a unique way to make anyone around feel special. Always had a joke to share to make you laugh.
Survivors include the love of his live his beloved wife of 53 years, Margaret "Margie" (Smith) Young; two children, Eddie Young and wife Paulette, and Dawn Smith and Bobby Posten; grandchildren, Morgan, McKinzee, Allyson, Sophia, and Addison; a great granddaughter, Halo. Also survived Keith Young and Uncle Moon and Aunt Peg that held a special place in his heart.
As per his wishes, Jerry will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the special people at WVU Hospice -Potomac Valley. A special thanks to Josh and Holly, Lacey, Heather for showing so much love and compassion with his care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of Jerry, to the ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209.
So Dad, We know you are in heaven, lining up on that quarter mile drag strip on you H2 Kawasaki, waiting on the green light on the triple tree, with a big smile on your face.beating the time of 10.5 seconds/132 mph time from 1976. WHOOPAA!!!!
