Geraldine Cutlip Obituary

Geraldine F. Cutlip, age 92, of Wooster, peacefully left her earthly body on Monday, September 29, 2025, while at home. She passed away following a period of declining health. So fiercely attached to her earthy family was she, that she fought tooth and nail to stay with them as long as she possibly could. Her family had the privilege of caring for her up until the very end.

Geraldine, better know as Geri, was born on October 18, 1932 in Diana, West Virginia, to Amos and Elizabeth (Cutlip) Tanner. She grew up in the hills of West Virginia with her parents and many siblings where she learned hard work, resiliency, resourcefulness, and was passed down a fierce loyalty to family. Eventually she moved to Ohio, along with her parents and several siblings, to escape the poverty of the mountains and to seek better opportunities.

Geri worked in a few different restaurants prior to settling at Leroy's Place of Wooster (formerly DiOrio's). She worked tirelessly, as a single mom, six days a week, for over twenty years. She never missed a day of work. Many past customers have affectionately referred to her as the "best waitress ever". She was known for being able to work a busy dining room, single-handedly without having to write anything down. Knowing that Geri was helping her daughter with college, customers tipped Geri's hard work and great service generously. Geri was both humbled and appreciative of these kind gestures and reminded her daughter regularly to always be grateful for this generosity as well. Geri was also known for her own extremely kind and generous nature. She was always helping a friend or family member in need.

Geri loved her customers and her work. She retired reluctantly around the age of seventy. This was also soon after the birth of her first grandchild. If there was anything she loved more than a hard days work and serving others, it was spending time with her two grandchildren, Reagan and Xander. In addition to time with them, she loved investing in and watching the stock market (especially Maria Bartiroma), scratch off lottery tickets, the more than occasional Twinkie or Pop Tart, a morning cup of coffee, and a good crime show. Her smile could light up a room and most certainly lit up our hearts, as will the memory of her.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Cutlip (Chad Kasunick) of Wooster; grandchildren, Reagan and Xander. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Millie Cutlip and many treasured nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Lonnie Cutlip, Glen Cutlip, Leone (Junior) Sampsel, James Cutlip, Willie Cutlip, John Cutlip, Blanche Channell, Virgie May, Austin (Gray) Cutlip, Hurley (Holly) Cutlip, George (Orpha Jean) Cutlip, Cecil Cutlip, and Archie Cutlip. She leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews.

Services will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at 4:00 pm. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St. in Wooster with Rev. Dr. Kevan Franklin officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 hours prior to services ( 2:00 - 4:00pm) at the church.
