Cletis Edgar Adkins Sr.

Cletis Edgar Adkins, Sr., age 88, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Avenue at Wooster Care Center in Wooster after a period of declining health. His loving family was by his side.
Cletis was born on November 3, 1937 in Midkiff, (10 mile Creek) West Virginia to Lindsy and Hattie (Tooley) Adkins.
After moving from West Virginia in 1976, he had resided in the Killbuck area before moving back to the Wooster area.
He married Odessa Hager on May 30, 1959 in West Hamlin, West Virginia. She went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2013.
He previously worked as a welder for over 33 years with the former Babcock & Wilcox Co. in Barberton before retiring in 1998.
Cletis was an active member of United Freewill Baptist Church in Massillon where he also taught Sunday School for many years. He was also President of the Wooster Horseshoe Club. He mostly loved spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his children, son, Cletis E. Adkins, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Ohio; daughters, Sheri (James) Shutt of and Sheila Vance all of Wooster; a step-son, Jack, Jr. (Tina) Thompson of Wooster; grandchildren, Christina Adkins, Timothy Luke, Rachel (Rob) Gordon, Brittany Shaulis, Johnathen Adkins, Michael Adkins, Jeremy Shutt and Jason Shutt; 8 great-grandchildren; second wife, Martha Sue Adkins; Scott Beckwith of Wooster who was like a grandson to him ; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by his 7 brothers and sisters.
Services will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, 1:00 pm at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with Elder Rodney Hager officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel in Wooster.
Visitation for family and friends will be two hours prior (11:00 AM- 1:00 PM) prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.
