She was born in
Lake City, Florida, on December 12, 1939, to Palmer and Eula Thomas Atkinson. She attended local schools, graduating from Columbia High School in 1957. She was educated in Florida colleges to achieve a degree as a Registered Nurse, State Board Licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator, State Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and Case Manager Certification by the Department of Elder Affairs. She participated and held membership in the American College of Nursing Home Administrators, Development Disabilities Nurses Association, American Association of Mental Retardation, and other related associations.
She served as a member of the Lake City Business and Professional Women's Club, where she held both local and district-level offices and positions. Additionally, she participated in other civic organizations.
She was employed by the Florida Probation Commission for six years. She was Administrator and Manager for five long-term health care facilities. Additionally, as president and owner of JAD, Inc. She managed long-term care facilities from 1966 to 1981, when she retired. In 1983, she was employed by ResCare, Inc. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, this provider offers services for individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges and is launching the Lake City Cluster residential facility. While with ResCare, she functioned as a Registered Nurse, Director of Health Services, Qualified Mental Retardation Professional, Individual Services Coordinator, Administrator and Executive Director, State Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She participated in Corporate Reviews and Quality Assurance Status as assigned in the United States. She concluded her employment in July 2013, following thirty years of service. In August 2013, she joined Columbia County Senior Services, Inc. as a Case Manager and Registered Nurse for the Day Program for Persons with Dementia, also supervising certified nursing assistants for in-home care.
She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of many years, George W. Disbrow, parents Palmer and Eula Atkinson, great-great-grandson, Kaeden Brandon Bradshaw,
Survived by children, including Robert P. Disbrow, Walter E. Disbrow, Christian W. Disbrow, grandchildren Lacey Lynn Disbrow, Brandi R. Bradshaw (Joe); great-grandchildren Damien M. Disbrow, Robert D. Stanford, Arianna L. Stanford, Daxton L. Bradshaw, Aubriella J. Bradshaw. Godchildren: Tracy Nettles (Scott), Timmy Lucas, James, Victoria, Cristifer, Nathan Love, Judy Bryant, Hailey Bryant, Lance Barfield, and Chandra Collins.
