  Geraldine (Geri) Duran passed away due to a sudden illness on July 17, 2024 at the age of 76. Geri was born Geraldine Therese Kavanaugh and raised in Las Vegas, N.M. Geri married Tony Marquez Sr. and raised four of her children in Las Vegas. In 1984 she moved to Denver, CO, and married Anthony Duran where she extended her family. Geri came home to New Mexico (Albuquerque) in 1996, where she remained until 2024, when she moved home to Las Vegas, N.M. 

Geri was enjoying life in Las Vegas -- planting flowers, setting up her yard, playing with her three dogs, spending time with her sister Carmen, reconnecting with friends, and of course checking in and catching up with friends and family on Facebook. She will be remembered for her beauty, kind heart, sense of humor, her laugh and her love for animals and nature. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Marquez Jr. (former mayor of Las Vegas, NM); daughter, Christina Marquez; husband Tony Marquez Sr.; the love of her life, husband Anthony Duran; her parents, Joe I. and Dolores (Patron) Kavanaugh; sister Maria Christina Wiggins; sister Martha Consuelo Vigil; brothers-in-law James Wiggins, Bruce Gibbs and Al Vigil.

Geri is survived by daughter Denise Padilla (Patrick), Albuquerque, NM; Melissa Lucero (Jay) Denver, CO; Angel Chavez (Robert), Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Maricela Vigil, Angelique Mares, Antonio Marquez, Kiana Mender, Seth Mender, Estevan Marquez, LaTina Lucero, LaRissa Lucero, LaNay Lucero, Lathan Lucero, Samara Burns, Knoa Chavez, Ben Chavez; sister Carmen Valdez-Gibbs, Las Vegas, NM.; brother J. Michael Kavanaugh, Las Vegas, NM sister Joella Kavanaugh, Albuquerque, NM; 13 great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

A rosary and funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM. Cremation has taken place, and a private burial will take place at a later date.
