Geraldine Evelyn Elrod, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 28, 2025 with her family by her side.
She was born in Gaston County, North Carolina, on May 23, 1936 to the late Ed and Nancy Elizabeth Leming. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, Randall Elrod.
Geri was a member of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church for 33 years and was very active until her health declined. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her home was the center for holiday meals. She was a true homemaker and was famous for her nut rolls and orange crush poundcake. She was the current DW World Champion with her chocolate pie. Geri made it perfectly clear to her family that she did not like white or canned gravy, she liked brown gravy. She was also an excellent seamstress. Most of all, her strong Christian faith carried her through her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Wilson (Billy) and Nancy Welch (Kelly); grandchildren, John Kelly Welch (Brittany) and Lauren Price (Caleb); great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Jett, and Everleigh; and her brother, Larry Leming (Kathy); niece, Amanda Caden and her children, Caroline Caden and Carter Caden.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 in the Fellowship Hall of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, 3025 Fraley Church Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church with Reverend Charles Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery, 2522 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
