Dear Debbie and Elizabeth and to all our many loving Shanahan and our beloved cousins and friends. Phil and I loved Gerry. When we came to Charlestown, Phil was about 2 1/2 and I was 4 1/2 and the first person who wanted to meet her new cousins was Gerry. She asked Nana Boylan and Aunt Ma if she could take the boys down the park. She introduced us to a new world. This was not just once, it was many times for a couple of years. One winter day she came up and took us down to the park on her sled. She pulled us down from the yard, down to the street to the park and later that winter took us coasting down the roundies. She let us go slowly but we got faster and on the first hump we started to go faster, Gerry hit the first hump and took a header, she jumped up and dove and caught the sled just before we flew out of the park. Gerry has been our most special older cousin for our whole lives. Not that we don't love all of you, Geryy was just simply special.
Love Phil, Connie and Bernie Boylan

Gerry and I were friends growing up together in Charlestown. We lived across the street from each other and both went to St. Francis. I remember the summer she broke her arm jumping the benches over by the "little pool" at the Doherty Playground. It didn't stop her from continuing to jump the benches. My condolences to all the family.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I was fortunate to be able to have Gerry as a math tutor in my classroom for a few years. She loved giving the students math challenges for them to solve. She will be missed here at Memorial School.
