Geraldine Mary ‘Catherine’ (Donahue) Spencer, 87, died on March 14, 2023, at her residence in Bethlehem, New Hampshire surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 25, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Jeremiah Donahue and Eleanor (McDonald) Donahue. She was the wife of John C. Spencer whom she wed on May 25, 1956, in Boston, MA on their shared birthday.
Growing up in Boston, Geraldine attended the St. Peters Catholic School and graduated from the Jeremiah Burke High School. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and watching baseball. A true Boston native, Geraldine was an avid Red Sox fan; her favorite player was Rafael Devers. She was a long time employee of the Sullivan County Nursing Home and also acted as their Union President.
She is predeceased by her son, Scott J. Spencer who passed in 2011, her late son-in-law, John "Oscar" Doherty, her sisters, Eleanor Hayes, and Claire McLaughlin, and her brothers, Frederick McDonald, Jeremiah Donahue, William Donahue, David Donahue, James Donahue, and Edward Donahue.
She is survived by her son, John C. Spencer III; her daughters, Susan Doherty of Bethlehem, NH, Jody Laberge of Claremont, NH, Diana Haley and her husband William Haley of Randolph, MA, Theresa Hall of Greenfield, MA, Robin Burns and her husband John Burns of Charlestown, NH, and Jill Pelkey and her husband James Pelkey of Stokesdale, NC; her brothers, Dennis Donahue and John Donahue; her sisters, Jean McDermott, Theresa Leoncello, Patricia Boyce, Diane Freda, Marion Donahue, and Janice Niak. Geraldine is also survived by her 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
A wake will be held for Geraldine on Sunday, March 19th from 2PM-6PM at the Pillsbury Phaneuf Funeral Home. On Monday, March 20th, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the St. Rose of Lima Church in Littleton NH. There will be a procession to the church from Pillsbury Phaneuf Funeral Home to the St. Rose of Lima Church. Please meet at Pillsbury Phaneuf Funeral Home at 101 Union Street in Littleton NH on March 20th at 10AM for those that would like to join the procession to the church. She will be interred at the St. Margaret's Cemetery in Twin Mountain, NH on May 25, 2023, beginning at 10AM on Geraldine and John's shared birthdays and wedding anniversary.
