Geraldine Sylvia Sterns, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at her residence in Fergus Falls, MN. She was 77 years old.
Geraldine was born on September 25, 1945, to George and Selma (Thorson) Anderson. She was baptized in Fergus Falls and confirmed at Nidaros Lutheran Church in Vining. Geraldine attended grade school in Vining and went on to graduate from Battle Lake High School in 1963.
On June 29, 1966, Geraldine married the love of her life, Matthew Sterns, in Sisseton, South Dakota. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and cherished memories. After their marriage, they resided in Milwaukee, WI before moving to Dalton in January of 1967. In 2011, they settled down in Fergus Falls.
Throughout her working years, Geraldine held various positions. She worked at Moens Inn in Battle Lake and Ten Mile Lake Steakhouse in Dalton. In 2017, she retired from Wal-Mart after years of dedicated service.
Geraldine actively engaged in her community and was a member of several organizations. She joined the Eagle Auxiliary in 1998 and became a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Her involvement extended to the Homemakers Club in Dalton and Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
In her free time, Geraldine found joy in various activities. During her younger years, she loved dancing and spent many hours ice skating and roller skating. Bowling was another favorite pastime of hers. Additionally, she enjoyed playing pinochle and engaging in lively games of bingo and cards. A talented cook and baker, Geraldine delighted her family and friends with delicious meals prepared with love.
Geraldine will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her warm presence, infectious laughter, and kind heart touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matthew Sterns, her parents George and Selma Anderson, her brother Roger Anderson, and brother-in-law, Donald Torgerson.
She is survived by her loving children, Robert (Ardel) Sterns of Dalton and Theresa (Shane) Parker of Rockledge, FL. Geraldine's memory will also be cherished by her three grandchildren: Megan (Anthony Atonio) Sterns, Mitchell (Colby Barnes) Sterns, and Jackson (Kayla) Parker; two great-grandchildren, Kerra Sterns-Atonio and Taemon Atonio brought immense joy to Geraldine's life. She is also survived by her sister Sandra Torgerson and sister-in-law Debbie Anderson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
A visitation to honor and remember Geraldine will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Our Saviors Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church located at 108 North Central Ave in Dalton. Following the visitation will be a memorial service held at the same location at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Dalton.
