Geraldine "Gerry" Atkinson Wantz, age 84, formerly of Westminster, MD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 6, 2025, following a long illness. She resided at Madonna Heritage Assisted Living in Jarrettsville, MD. Born March 22, 1941, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward Tyson Atkinson, Jr. and Dorothy Cofiell Atkinson. She was the wife of almost 43 years to the late Russell Carl Wantz. Gerry had a long career as the office manager for Wantz Construction Company, Inc., in Gamber, MD, working alongside her husband and then son, until her retirement in 2015.
First and foremost, Gerry was a Christian. Prior to her illness, she faithfully read the bible daily and attended services at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church in Eldersburg, MD, where she was a lifetime member. She loved everything pink and there was not a sweet treat she didn't enjoy. Gerry loved to watch the Orioles, Ravens, and Terps basketball. She travelled to many places with her husband, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren-including her grand-cats and grand-dogs.
Her survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Pam Hobbs of Hampstead, MD; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Chris Franz of Surfside Beach, SC; grandchildren, Lauren Franz, Thomas Franz and wife Jenna, Jennifer Hobbs, Andrew Hobbs, Jr., and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Evan Franz. She will be deeply missed by her family and devoted friend, Jackie Franz of Westminster, MD.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD. The family will receive visitors from 10 – 11 am, with a memorial service beginning at 11 am. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Amedisys Hospice Services of Harford County, BARCS of Baltimore or Alzheimer's Research.
