Edith Hilda Wantz née Hilbert, of Emmitsburg, MD, passed away on November 6, 2025, at her residence. Born October 12, 1930 in Taneytown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Hilbert and Elizabeth Hilbert née Troxell. She was the devoted wife of the late David B. Wantz, Sr.
Edith was a deeply loving person, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. This she learned from being raised on her parents’ farm with her 9 siblings before marrying and continuing with her own family. Additionally, she always had a packed social calendar, playing both duckpin and ten pins bowling and won championships in both leagues; playing bingo every Wednesday and Friday (B7 was her lucky number!); throwing cornhole and horseshoes and won the family tournament; and cheering on her favorite sports teams the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens. Edith also particularly enjoyed having her hair done at Total Look Salon every Friday for 50 years and having her conversations with Sheila. But most of all, she took great pride in caring for her family. Edith was particularly proud of having prepared the family Thanksgiving dinner every year until she 90 years old and watching her great-grandchildren play sports; ensuring each great-grandchild received a dollar for every Baseball Home Run, Basketball Basket made, and soccer goal.
Survived by sons, David B. Wantz, Jr. and wife, Terry, Steven Wantz, Sr. and wife, Linda, and John Wantz and wife, Joan; grandsons, David B. Wantz, III, Edward Wantz, Steven Wantz, Jr., and Chris Wantz; granddaughters, Holly Zanella, Dianah Wastler, and Angie Jurchak; great-grandchildren, David B. Wantz, IV, Drew, Steven III, Josh, Chloe, Natalie, Johnathan, Owen, Jillian, Greyson, Evelyn, Jeremiah, Ethan, and Olivia; and brothers, Kenny Hilbert, Harry Hilbert, and Paul Hilbert. Edith was preceded in death by her siblings, Louis, Earl, Ray, Delphine, Catherine, and Irene.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 210 W.
