Gerda Purdy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Deer Park Funeral Directors - Deer Park on Sep. 20, 2024.
Gerda Christiane Purdy, age 59, of Bacliff, Texas, passed away September 16, 2024, after a long and hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
She was born on February 16, 1965, in Bonn, Germany, to Peter and Erna Müller. It was in Bonn that Gerda met the love of her life, Rob. After he moved to Kona, Hawaii she took a trip to visit him, and it was during this trip they both realized that they were meant to be together forever. Instead of returning home to Germany, Gerda decided to stay with Rob in Hawaii. They were married shortly thereafter and a couple of years later had their son, Peter. The Purdys lived in Kona for over a decade before moving to Seabrook, Texas when Rob was called to be a full-time pastor at a local church there.
Gerda will be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, loyal friend, and a devoted Christian. Mission work was a passion of hers and she went on numerous mission trips to Senegal, including an entire summer she spent there by herself. She loved singing and regularly helped lead worship at church for decades. Gerda also enjoyed being active and participating in workout groups. The support she received from these groups and the friendships she gained are why she was able to fight her cancer as long as she did. If you spent any amount of time talking with her, you likely have heard a lot about her other great love, the dogs.
Gerda is survived by her husband Rob; her son Peter; her daughter-in-law Sara; and her two German Shepherds, Juppi and Lea.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 12:00pm at First Baptist Church of Seabrook. More details can be found on the church website.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the FBC Seabrook Mission Trip Fund via the church website.
