Gerold D. Young, 92, of Monon, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born on December 3, 1933 at home in Monon to the late Thomas R and Alberta (Mohler) Young. On December 17, 1955 he married Phyllis Marie Widner in Hernando Mississippi. She survives.
He attended Monon High School. Over his career, he farmed, worked at Monon trailer for 38 years, Wabash National for 8 years, drove a van for North White School for 10 years, and managed the Monon Park mowing with his wife for 8 years. He liked camping and loved hunting and fishing with his sons and son-in-law. He enjoyed watching westerns and NFL football along with following his grandkids and great grandkids various sports. Gerold loved is Yorkies, Molly and Jenny, but he cherished his family.
He was a member of Monon Methodist Church and also attended Monticello United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis Marie, he is survived his children, Sharon (Bill) Brooks of Reynolds, Thomas (Shellie) Young of Monon, Roger (Hannah) Young of Monon, Scott (Denese) Young of Burnettsville; brother, Larry (Ruth) Young of Walton; fourteen grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hall, brother-in-law, Arnold Hall, brother, Garry Young, granddaughter, Alicia Young Malott, and great-granddaughter, Skyler Young.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Monon Methodist Church with Pastor Adrienne Hinshaw officiating.
Burial will follow in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Phyllis to help offset expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church.
