Gertraude "Trudy" K. Lord, young at heart at 95, of Dudley, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.
Gertraude was born on May 24, 1928, in Chemnitz, Germany. She was confirmed in her Lutheran faith at age 13 and raised her family in the Dudley Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oswald Albert Klopfer and Margarethe Susanne Eisenreich Klopfer; sons, Robert Edward Lord and Mark Alan Lord; husband, Marshall R. Lord; and sister, Ursula K. Schiff.
She is survived by her children, Susan Edge (Ricky), Nancy Thomas (Raymond), and Jay Lord (Christy); grandchildren, Angie Moss (Tim), Jennifer Matney (Greg), Joshua Thomas (Dana), Steven Edge (Ibzan), Joseph Lord, and Olivia Lord; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sonya K. Dunfield and Anita Jorgenson (Fred).
At the age of 5, Gertraude immigrated to Brooklyn NY, to join her parents and become a naturalized citizen. In 1948, Gertraude "Trudy" settled in Dudley, Georgia, with her new-found love, Marshall. They built a productive farm and a loving home together. Trudy was employed for several years with Carl Nelson, attorney-at-law, then briefly with the Mutual Production Credit Association before returning home to develop citizenship in her children. At the age of 60, Trudy began new adventures working with the Laurens County Historical Society and enjoying her role as beloved grandmother and Oma.
Visitation will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, June 16, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be in the chapel at Townsend's on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens.
