HOLDEN - The family of Gertrude S. Grenon (Duprey) lost their loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, just one week shy of her 99th Birthday. Gertrude passed peacefully on August 21st, surrounded by family, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. She lost her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert A. Grenon in 1997.
Gertrude leaves behind a son Robert E. Grenon of The Villages, FL; two daughters, Patricia A. Dolan of Boylston, and Donna M. Cobb of Holden; 7 Grandchildren, Robert Grenon of Worcester, Lynn Daly of Charlton, Andrea Bigos of Hudson, Tracey Tindol of Franklin, Pamela Dunbar of Auburn, Daniel Cobb of Holden, and Brian Cobb of Brookline, NH. She also leaves 15 great grandchildren: Sean, Emma, Tyler, Jake, Halle, Sonja, Jackson, Reese, Alexandra, Adrian, Emerson, Owen, Dylan, Kamila and Brayden.
She was preceded in death by her four siblings: Philip, Joseph and Robert Duprey, and Margaret Leary; and her granddaughter Susan Cobb.
Born in Worcester on September 2, 1927, she was the daughter of Alfred and Esther Duprey and graduated from Girl's Trade High School. She relished her role as mother, raising her children and supporting her husband; she would later work at O'Coin Homebrands.
Gert and Bob enjoyed camping and time at the beach with their children, and once they became empty nesters, she was an active member of St. Columba's church. They enjoyed traveling and were avid square dancers and bowlers. Gert was strong to the end, living independently and managing her own affairs. In later years, she received great joy from watching her grandchildren grow up and her great grandchildren always brought a smile to her face.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street in Rutland. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend.
