Gertrude DeVaul Joss, 88 of Cicero, New York died Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. Gert was born June 23, 1936 in the Town of Sullivan, New York daughter of the late Henry and Florence Chawgo DeVaul. Gert partnered with her husband Raymond on the Joss Farm in Cicero, New York and later worked as a parts clerk with Syracuse Diesel for many years. She and Raymond who predeceased her in 1970 were married May 27, 1954 at the North Chittenango Methodist Church.
Mrs. Joss was a great enthusiast of assembling difficult puzzles and enjoyed attending luncheons and bingo at the Cicero Senior Center.
She was predeceased by sister, Marion in 2018; brothers, Herbert in 1996 and Leon in 1995; nieces, Rose in 2011, Tami in 2020 and Cheryl in 2022; nephews, Ronald and Herbert, Jr. in 2021 and Edward in 2023.
Gert is survived by her son, Raymond "Tim" and daughter-in-law Cathy; granddaughters, Kimberly McKnight and Maria (Mike) Phinney; grandson, Raymond "Tim" Joss, Jr.; great grandchildren, David Phinney, Ashleigh and PJ McKnight; sisters, Jane (Jim) Fanning and Millie (Rick) McNeely; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Gert's Life is being planned and will be announced. Burial in North Syracuse Cemetery in North Syracuse, New York will be private.
