Gertrude “Trudy” (Cone) McElfresh passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 86.

Trudy was married to the love of her life, John, for 50 years. She worked at Amax Coal for 20 years before leaving to go into business with her husband, John, at McElfresh Accounting and Tax Services Inc. Trudy retired in 2005. After retirement she loved to travel with John, sharing wonderful memories of their trips to Aruba, Alaska, Ireland, Scotland, England and Hawaii. Up to the end, Trudy maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends and expressed gratitude for her long life full of wonderful and varied experiences. 

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, William "David" and Mary Lillian Cone, brother, Bill Cone and nephew, Jason Cone.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, John S. McElfresh, aunt Ethelene, uncle Raymond Wahley, and several extended family members including brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 1604 W. Morris St., Indianapolis, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1PM; visitation will begin at 11:30AM.
