Phillipsburg resident, Gertrude V. Redinger, passed away on October 6, 2025, at the Phillips County Hospital, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 87.

Gertrude Viola Jerby was born on February 1, 1938, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to her parents Alfred Franklin and Sophronia Muriel (Rowland) Jerby.

Gertrude eloped with the love of her life, Dwight Redinger, on November 3, 1956, in Gretna, Kansas, after he was discharged from the military. A wedding was planned, but they couldn't wait to start their lives together. Soon after, they moved to California, but returned when she missed her family here. Together, they raised four children--Rhonda, Debbie, Jim and Donny. Gertrude loved being a wife, mother and later a grandmother. Dwight raised a big garden and her job was canning everything for winter as well as selling produce for extra income. Weekends were spent camping and fishing, with trips to Colorado added after Debbie moved there. Her favorite free time activities were spending time with her mom and Bingo with Debbie, her brother and sisters and sisters-in-law--later with Debbie and Rachel. Family was her greatest joy. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Her home was always full of warmth and laughter with them and all their friends. She loved helping people when she went to work as a CNA. She loved life and she loved the Lord, who has now welcomed her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dwight Redinger, parents Alfred and Sophronia Jerby, daughter Debbie Ferguson, brothers Alfred and David Jerby, sisters Bonnie Woods, and Judy Craig, sons-in-law Gary Calhoon, and James Ferguson, daughter-in-law Misty Redinger, and Great Grandchild Angel Baby Calhoon.

Survivors include sons James Lee Redinger of Phillipsburg, Donny D. Redinger and wife Rachel of Glade, Kansas, daughter Rhonda Calhoon of Glade, Kansas, grandchildren Jason Calhoon, Devon, Sydnee, Bella, and Briella Redinger, and great grandchildren Jonathan Pirotte and Misty Redinger, two bonus Grandsons Josh Goscha, and Scott Bruehahn, sisters in law Brenda Jerby of Smith Center, Kansas, and Darlene Redinger of Osborne, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Gertrude will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. Burial will follow at the West Cedar Cemetery, in Agra, Kansas.

Mrs. Redinger will lie in state on Thursday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Ministerial Alliance, for providing gas vouchers to people battling cancer.
