Gertrude P. Verblaauw, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomingdale, NJ on November 7, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on November 29, 1936, in Paterson, NJ, she was a vibrant presence in the lives of all who knew her. Gertrude life journey began in the family home that had been cherished by five generations, where she cultivated a powerful love for family, friends, and her faith.

A devoted homemaker, Gertrude also made significant contributions to her career as a secretary for many years, most notably with Judge Sabbath at the Passaic County Courts. Her professional life reflected her strong sense of duty and commitment, qualities that seamlessly extended to her personal life as she fostered deep connections with her loved ones.

Gertrude was an active member of her community, attending Madison Ave Presbyterian Church in Paterson before becoming a cherished part of Preakness Baptist Church in Wayne, NJ. Her unwavering belief in Jesus and her steadfast faith were cornerstones of her life. Family was her true passion, and she found immense joy in spending time with her sons, John (and the late Terry) and George (Iris), creating treasured memories that will forever be held in their hearts. Gertrude was additionally the proud great-great-grandmother of the lovely Lisa Suzann, a testament to her enduring legacy.

In addition to her roles as a mother, grandmother, and friend, Gertrude was known for her vibrant personality and enriching contributions to the Troop 62 Boy Scout Committee in Paterson, NJ, a role that showcased her dedication to youth development and community service.

Gertrude is predeceased by her parents, George Delta Orr and Gertrude (nee Ruit), her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Verblaauw, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Terry Verblaauw.
