It is with great love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William (Bill) A. Lowndes, born July 18, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Queens, NY where he grew up and then moved to the fabulous community of Butler, NJ to raise his family. He passed away peacefully with lots of recent visits by family and friends. He has joined his beloved wife, Norma Claire, and his son, William (Billy) in eternal peace.Pop was a man of many talents, but perhaps his most enduring legacy is the life he built with his wife, Norma, raising three children and running a carpentry business for many years. His craftsmanship was a reflection of his character—precise, strong, and full of care.He was a proud father to Billy (predeceased), Pam, and Michael, and a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, whose larger-than-life presence will never be forgotten. Pop Pop’s adventurous spirit and infectious joy for gatherings were a constant source of energy and love to everyone who knew him. Whether he was at his beloved Schroon Lake, sharing stories of youth, or describing his prowess in handball and the streets of Queens in his jeans rolled up and cigarettes tucked into the sleeve of his white t-shirt, Pop Pop enjoyed having his family and friends near. He was a friend and mentor to many kids as they grew up such as teaching them the craft of carpentry in his Butler garage while building his business. He touched so many lives and is still talked about today. He brought fun and laughter to every room he entered, and to his grandchildren, he was an absolute legend—a true life of the party. He is survived by his daughter Pam, son-in-law Tom, granddaughters Rachel and Alex with husband Matt; his former daughter-in-law Karen and granddaughters Allison with husband Michael and Jessica with husband Zachary; his son Michael, daughter-in-law Dusti, and grandchildren Maverick, Cameron with wife Ticia, and Emmalie with husband Colton. His legendary love for life lives on in his seven great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever hear treasured stories of his adventures through his children and grandchildren.Pop Pop’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His tales of handball, boating, four-wheelers, coaching, and spontaneous adventures such as moving to Montana for several years in his 60’s will be passed down for generations. He was a man who gave you all his attention in his presence and made every moment memorable.Rest in absolute peace and love, Pop Pop. Your legacy will live on forever, and we will carry you with us always, in every adventure and every story. We love you!The family plans to hold a celebration of life at Schroon Lake in the near future.
