Gib Wright

Gib Wright, age 91, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Olney Hamilton Hospital. Family visitation will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Lunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Dr. Chad Edgington officiating, assisted by Jaden Brisco and Steve Highfield. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Gib was born to Gus and Bertha “Bobbie” (Russell) Wright on December 21, 1934, in Olney, Texas. He graduated from Olney High School in 1954 and married Joanne Owen on April 30, 1954, in Olney. They spent sixty-two years together before she preceded him in death in September 2016. Gib and Joanne moved back to Olney in 1970 from Seminole, Oklahoma, and he was very involved in the community. He worked for Lunn Funeral Home for a total of twenty years and the Furniture store for six years. Gib was the first emergency medical technician in Olney and took over the ambulance service in 1976, and oversaw all operations until 1999. He was a past president of the Lions Club, a member of the Texas Jaycees, and he was recognized as Olney’s Citizen of the Year in 1992. Gib served two terms on the Olney City Council, was on the Cemetery Trustee board for many years, and served on the Hamilton Hospital Board. He was also a board member of the Olney Senior Cub Center for ten years from 2007 to 2017. He served as a deacon at Southside Baptist Church of Olney before becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Olney. Gib never went anywhere and met a stranger, always had the best rebuttals, and truly loved the banjo. For a person that never attended The University of Texas, Gib was a huge fan of the Boys and Girls sports teams. He will always be remembered for having a servant's heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joanne Wright, his son, Keith Wright, his brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Wright and wife, Jeanine, and his sister-in-law, Betty Langford Self.

Gib is survived by his son Kent Wright of Olney, Texas, his nieces and nephews: Jeff Langford and wife Paula of Fountain, Colorado, Mark Langford of Delmont, Pennsylvania, Tom Wright and wife Norma of Possum Kingdon Lake, Texas, Sidney Wright of Graham, Texas, Julie McCune of Amarillo, Texas, Rod and wife Lina Owen of El Paso, Texas, Michael Hobbs of Litchfield Park, Arizona, and Melany Strand and husband Grant of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Gib is also survived by many treasured friends who were like family.
