Gilbert Munoz Cardenas

Gilbert M. Cardenas, 93, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on December 3, 2025. He was a great man, husband, father, grandfather and so on. He had a great life here on earth and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Gilbert was born on February 25, 1932, to his parents Alfonso and Julia in Glendale, Arizona, the fourth child of five siblings. He lost his father at a very young age and therefore was always working, yet he s ll managed to graduate from Glendale High School. He started working for Safeway grocery stores as a teenager and worked there for over 45 years. He was an honest, hard-working man and always supported his family. Many people respected him because of his integrity and values.

He met the love of his life Margaret and they married in 1951. They started their life and family in south Phoenix and were married for over 55 years. They had three children; Patricia (Pat), Gilbert (Gib), and Ron (Ronnie).

He enjoyed dancing (he was a great dancer), family gatherings, playing horseshoes, basketball, and listening to country western and Mexican music. It brought him great joy to see his grandkids and great grandkids playing when they came to visit and was affectionally known as "Tata" and "Lito". He also did much traveling a er his retirement and went to the places he always wanted to visit.

Gilbert was a faithful Catholic and lifelong parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Phoenix. He a ended mass every Sunday from a child un l his death. He was always thankful to God for his family, work, and a good life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; sisters Elisa, Casimira, Josefina, and brother Alfonso. He is survived by his three children; Patricia, Gilbert (Teresa), Ron (Rosemary), thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Heaven rejoiced when he entered the Kingdom of God. He was finally reunited with his father, mother, and lovely wife.

A visitation on will be held at Lowmans Arizona Funeral Home, 717 W. Dobbins Road, Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday, December 16th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. A rosary and funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 6200 S. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, December 17th beginning at 9:25am (rosary, then Mass service). The burial service will be held are rewards at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St, Phoenix, AZ.
