Gilbert Charles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McHoul Family Funeral Home on Jan. 20, 2026.
Gilbert "Gibby" Rockwell Charles Jr., a charismatic gentleman with a heart full of love and laughter, has ended his earthly journey on January 12, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on March 5, 1943, in the charming city of Boston, Gibby's life was one filled with camaraderie, humor, and an unwavering loyalty to his beloved hometown of Dorchester, where he remained a lifelong resident. Known for his vibrant personality and punctuated with a fun-loving spirit, Gibby's life was as colorful as the stories he would share about the good old days in Dorchester.

Gilbert was not only a reliable friend but also a beloved bartender at the Leedsville Cafe. His quick wit, funny anecdotes, and skillful handling of the pool cue made him a cherished figure in the community. Though he never married, Gibby's life was far from lonely. His family and friends, the cornerstones of his life, were blessed with the infectious warmth of his love. His sisters, Patricia Cavanaugh and Susan Nephew, and his brother, Alan Charles, will continue to hold Gilbert's memory in their hearts, cherishing the time they were privileged to have with him.

Gibby's life was a testament to the joy of living in the present and cherishing the past. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Florence Charles, and his siblings, Dorothy Dormady, Robert Charles, Pamela Charles, and John Charles. Despite their absence, Gibby carried their memories with him, telling stories that kept their spirits alive within the community.

Now, as we bid farewell to our beloved Gibby, we invite you all to celebrate his life, his stories, and his love. Please share your memories of Gibby and upload photos to the memorial page. Let's remember our funny, loving, reliable, and charismatic Gibby, and keep his spirit alive just as he did for those who went before him.
