Gilbert Himebaugh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Homes - Elizabeth City on Dec. 14, 2023.
Gilbert "Gil" Himebaugh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 78.
Born on June 8, 1945, Gil lived a fulfilling life dedicated to his family and service to his country. He proudly served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the military, where his skills and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues and superiors.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Gil always found time to contribute to his community. One of his most cherished contributions was helping to organize the Veterans Day Flag Ceremony at his church, a testament to his unwavering patriotism and dedication to honoring his fellow veterans.
Gil was a faithful member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, finding solace and strength in his faith. He also held memberships with VFW Post 6060, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 671, and American Legion Post 84. Through these associations, he formed lasting friendships with like-minded individuals who shared his love for their country and its values.
Gil's warm smile, and kind heart touched the lives of many. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Julie Himebaugh; his daughters Laura McCombie of Elizabeth City, NC and Lynn Shinabery (Tom) of Hampton, VA; his son Michael Boland of Elizabeth City, NC; his nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gil's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him best. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his son-in-law, and an infant grandson. Although their absence is felt deeply, they will be warmly remembered and forever treasured in the hearts of those who loved them.
During this difficult time of mourning, let us find solace in the precious memories we shared with Gil. May his legacy inspire us all to live lives of kindness, compassion, and service.
A celebration of life, with military honors, will take place at Evangelical Methodist Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The family will have a reception at the church immediately following the service.
