Gilbert Kemp

Gilbert Kemp, 79, died Sunday evening, September 7, 2025 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning, September 11, 2025, at the Hopkinton Community Church, with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery with Military Honors, and Fireman's Last Call. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 7 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving is his wife Cynthia, 3 sons Chris (Julie), Greg, and Kyle (Tiffany), 10 grandchildren, Bryant, Jordyn, Chauncey, Gavin, Sawyer, Maddyx, Tuckyr, Kendryk, Gannyn, Rhys, his in-laws, Elissa Kemp, Suzanne (Larry) Hillers, Steve (Sheri) Tucker, Marilyn (Dan) Besler. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John, a sister Margaret Krumviede, and a nephew Dawson Besler.

Gilbert Charles Kemp was born January 18, 1946, at Monticello, Iowa, the son of Chauncey and Fern LeClere Kemp. Gilbert graduated from the Maquoketa Valley Schools in 1964. He went on to serve in Germany during the Vietnam War with the United States Army. Gilbert married Cynthia Tucker on July 15, 1972 at the Hopkinton Presbyterian Church. Gilbert worked for a brief time at the Hopkinton Creamery. He spent 42 years working at Energy Manufacturing in Monticello.
Gilbert was active in the community, serving on the Hopkinton Fire Department, the Hopkinton Ambulance, and the American Legion Post 311.

Gilbert was a part-time farmer on the LeClere family farm. He liked golf cart rides around town, showing off his 1969 Ford Torino Cobra Jet, watching horseshoes, playing softball for the Tucker Construction Team and bowling in the Wednesday and Thursday night leagues in Monticello.
