Gilbert Mabry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brockett Funeral Home on Jun. 29, 2025.
Gilbert Mabry, age 96, of Bridgehampton, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2025.

He was born on February 6, 1929, in Emporia, Virginia, to the late Emmett Mabery and Alberta Williams. Gilbert was a devoted follower of Jesus and lived his life guided by faith, love for his family, and a strong work ethic.

At a young age, Gilbert left school in the third grade so he could work and help provide for his family-buying pencils and paper so his siblings could continue their education. This early act of selflessness would go on to define the man he became.

Gilbert was married to his first wife, Martha Ed (Mason) Mabry, for 19 years until her passing in 1967. From this union, they were blessed with seven children: James,Debora, Roy, John, Glenda, Gilbert Jr., and Joyce.

He later married Roxanna (Skinner) Mabry, who also preceded him in death in 2015. Through this marriage, he lovingly embraced her children as his own: Katherene, Christine, Yvonne, Jeanette, Vernette, Polis, and Dan.

Gilbert worked for the James Diamond Company before becoming a successful independent carpet installer. He was known for his dedication, integrity, and quiet wisdom. A devoted member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Gilbert also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and upholstery.

He is survived by his children:

• John Mabery of Mastic, NY

• Debora Myrick (James) of East Hampton, NY

• Glenda Hayes (Johnny) of Hampton Bays, NY

• Joyce Mabery of Jacksonville, FL

He is also survived by his loving daughter-in-law, Connie Mabry of East Hampton, NY, wife of the late James Mabry.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his beloved wives, his parents, and three sons: Roy Mabery, Gilbert Mabery Jr., and James Mabry.

He was one of nine siblings. He is survived by his brother, Ray Mabry of Emporia, VA, and was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Garner, Louise Lewis, Eva Mae Williams, Laureen Taylor, Betty Walton, William Mabry, and Haywood Mabry.

Gilbert is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He will be deeply missed by his Jehovah's Witness congregation, who worshipped and served alongside him for many faithful years.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
